The Project aims to promote additional and valuable skills such as the capacity to exchange ideas and to respect the opinion of others. Specifically, its objectives are to:
- help young students find their voice and gain confidence to interact with newspapers;
- teach them the value of dedication and hardwork; and
- equip them with interview and language skills.
Each schools division/city superintendent (SDS) shall recommend only one (1) team composed of four (4) pupils/students aged 11 to 15 years old coming from same school or division, and one (1) teacher-adviser or school paper-adviser to act as coach.
The PDI shall shortlist five (5) teams with the best sets of questions from among the teams with entries. These finalists will then proceed to interview the persons they have chosen as subjects. If needed, the PDI will assist in securing an appointment with the interviewee for each team.
After the interview, each team will use the Q&A material to write a feature story in English on the person interviewed. The stories will be published in the PDI Learning Section. They will also be submitted to the PDI editors, who will select two (2) winners from the stories.
Both winning interview stories will be sent to WAN-Ifra in Paris, France where international judges will select two (2) global winners from among the contestant-teams of My Dream Interview Project.
The winning teams will be invited to receive their awards at the WAN-Ifra Expo in Madrid, Spain on October 29-31, 2012.
As par of the project, a series of workshops on the art of interviewing will be conducted in the National Capital Region (NCR), Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The pupils/students will be taught how to conduct journalistic interviews, including skills on researching, careful verification, fact-checking and smart question construction.
