Kaguruang Makabayan National Teachers' Training Writeshop Series on Culture-Based Teaching of the Basic Education Curriculum

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) will conduct the Kaguruang Makabayan National Teachers' Training Writeshop Series on Culture-Based Teaching of the Basic Education Curriculum this summer. This is an in-service teachers training program. The program seeks to provide public school teachers a comprehensive training on developing lesson exemplars and applied classroom teaching methodologies that explore the tools of Understanding by Design (UbD), Multiple Skills (MS), and Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MT-MLE) and through culture-based, integrative and interactive teaching approaches across the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC).

The target participants to this series of workshops are subject area coordinators and classroom teachers of Science, Mathematics, Language (English or Filipino), Social Studies, and Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) or Musika, Sining, Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkalusugan (MSEPP) in both elementary and high school levels.

The dates and venues of the region-clustered workshops are as follows:

April 25-27, 2011	Bulacan State University (BSU) Malolos City	Luzon Teachers
May 9-11, 2011	Cebu Normal University (CNU) Cebu City	Visayas Teachers
May 22-24, 2011	La Salle University-Ozamis (LSU) Ozamis City	Mindanao Teachers
May 26-28, 2011	PETA Theater Center Quezon City	National Capital Region (NCR) Teachers

The NCCA shall provide scholarship subsidy consisting of free tuition/registration, workshop kits and materials, and all meals for the duration of the workshops for the first thirty (30) participants nominated and endorsed by the schools division/city superintendents, district supervisors, or heads of public elementary and high schools. Transportation, accommodation and other expenses not covered by the scholarship provisions shall be charged to local funds.

Interested participants who fail to qualify for the scholarship shall be charged with the full registration fee of One Thousand Pesos Only (PhP1,000.00) to cover tuition, workshop kits and materials. They shall also be responsible for all participation-related costs.
