School Children's Oral Health Awareness Week

The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Health and Nutrition Center (HNC) will celebrate the School Children's Oral Health Awareness Week on October 3-7, 2011. This is one of the highlights of the School Health Month Celebration this October.
Some of the highlights of this week long celebration wi11 include the following:
  1. Scaling up the implementation of the Essential Health Care Program (EHCP) in all schools, per DepEd Order No. 65, s. 2009;
  2. Reinforcing the seven (7) o'clock toothbrushing habit among Grades I-III pupils in all public elementary schools nationwide to toothbrushing as a habit among school children;
  3. Conduct of lectures on oral health promotion in the schools and communities, dental services like oral health examination, treatment, consultation, etc. and oral health education;
  4. Awarding of Global Winner in the Poster Making Contest; and
  5. Conduct of the 2011 Gigantic Colgate Sachet Christmas Decoration Making Contest.
All school health and nutrition personnel, specifically the school dentists are expected to take the lead in the conduct of the aforementioned activities. It must be emphasized that such activities should not in any manner disrupt classes.
