6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Kills 26 in Myanmar and 1 in Thailand

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake, which struck at 8:25 pm Thursday (March 24, 2011), killed at least 27 people in north-east Myanmar and 1 in Thailand, officials said Friday. At least 27 people died and 50 were injured in Tali, the village nearest the epicentre in north-eastern Myanmar, officials said.

In Chiang Rai, Thailand, a woman died when a concrete wall in her home collapsed on top of her.

There were no reports on any casualties in Yangon and Naypyitaw.

The earthquake struck in its epicentre in north-eastern Myanmar, 589 kilometres north-east of Yangon, Myanmar’s old capital, and 772 kilometres north of Bangkok, according to the USGS (United States Geological Survey). - https://www.affordablecebu.com/
