Archaeologists claimed that the skull in a tomb beneath St. Ursula Monastery belonged to Lisa Gherardini Del Giocondo, an alleged Mona Lisa figure. Some scientists believe Lisa Gherardini was the man behind the mysterious smile of da Vinci's painting. The skull has the same size of a woman.

Currently, the archaeologists was to compare its DNA with the two bones which are buried not far from the tomb. To prove that the skull truly belonged to Mona Lisa, a forensic artist will perform facial reconstruction to compare with the da Vinci painting that has been 500 years old. If successful, the mystery behind Mona Lisa will be solved.

"Now we can not ensure that these bones belong to anyone," said archaeologist who became head of this excavation, Silvano Vinceti. "But this discovery proves our hypothesis that there are human bones in the monastery of St. Ursula and we are confident in between the bones belonged to Lisa Gherardini."

The discovery of this skull is not easy. Archaeologists use radar assistance, ancient maps, as well as some documents. The skull was under the floor layer 90 centimeters thick. "This finding is indeed an important discovery, we are very happy, our research proved," said Vinceti.

Lisa Gherardini died in 1542. She is the wife of a wealthy silk merchant Francesco de Giocondo. In Italy, the Mona Lisa is known as La Gioconda. Some historians agree the Mona Lisa is Lisa de Giocondo who became a nun after her husband died. He died at the monastery on July 15, 1542 at the age of 63 years.

The couple was married in 1495 when Lisa Giocondo was 16 years old and Francesco was 35-year-old. Some scientists suspect da Vinci's painting is a portrait to signify Lisa's pregnancy. The painting began to be made around 1503 and 1504, but just finished the painting in 1519 after da Vinci moved to France. Mona Lisa painting is owned by the French government and this is the most famous painting in the world. - https://www.affordablecebu.com/
