2011 Human Rights Consciousness Week

Pursuant to the Republic Act No. 9201, otherwise known as the National Human Rights Consciousness Week of 2002, December 4-10 of every year has been declared as the National Human Rights Consciousness Week in the country. This is in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 1948.
The theme for the 2011 Human Rights Consciousness Week Celebration is "End Impunity: Make Human Rights Our Way of Life." This activity aims to increase public awareness on the UDHR and to promote respect and understanding on the rights proclaimed under the universal declaration in order to create a sustainable human rights culture in the country.

By virtue of the said law, all government agencies including government-owned and controlled corporations shall celebrate the week through simple and appropriate ceremonies and activities to make the people aware of their basic human rights in relation to the functions and services offered by these government instrumentalities.

In view of this, the regional and division offices including both public and private
schools, are encouraged to undertake related activities during the Human Rights Week, such as, but not limited to the following:
  1. hoisting of streamers depicting the theme;
  2. recitation of the "Panunumpa sa Karapatang Pantao" during Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday, December 5, 2011; and
  3. reading of the "15 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)" for two (2) Mondays, December 5 and 11, 2011.
Moreover, all public and private elementary and secondary schools are encouraged to carry out activities in subject areas in which topics on human rights are integrated during the regular classroom discussions and for the pupils and students to be actively involved in other related activities such as essay writing contests and drawing contests during the first few minutes/hours of their classes.

The copies of the poster prototype, "Panunumpa sa Karapatang Pantao," and Articles 1 to 15 of the UDHR are enclosed for reference.
