DOLE reported 1-day settlement for allotment and SSS contribution problem

In July 31, 2011, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported the quick settlement of a certain woman's complaint regarding her husband's manning agency not paying its allotment and non-remittance of his SSS, Philhealth premium and other benefits.
Mrs. Carina Acosta-Soliman, filed a complaint to the National Conciliation and Meditation Board (NCMB) in June 21, 2011 to seek help regarding the Maritime Clinic for International Seafarers, Inc., a licensed manning agency, which according to her didn't pay her OFW husband's allotment for the month of March and didn't also remit his SSS and Philhealth premiums of the same month.

NCMB immediately called the owner of the Maritime Clinic for International Seafarers, Inc. on the same day. The two parties came and agreed to solve the issue/complaint through a settlement and immediately, the company paid Mrs. Soliman an amount of P16,719.46 total claims.

"In a fast, economical and justified way, we can settle a conflict through a fair agreement. It can be done through the Free Legal Arbirtration and Voluntary Assistance Services (FLAVAS) Single Entry Approach, a reform program of DOLE," said DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz.

A conciliation-mediation is a fast, economical and justified mechanism of an alternative dispute resolution implemented by the DOLE under single-entry (SENA) to prevent a conflict forming into a full-blown labor case.
