Suggested Long Weekend Activities in Celebration of the National Heroes Day and Eid'l FITR (Ramadan)

In celebration of the National Heroes Day and Eid'l Fitr, the Department of Education (DepEd) announces a long week-end on August 27-30, 2011 when the students will be given assignments for the whole family instead of academic assignments.

These activities aim to create an atmosphere of caring and concern for each member of the family. The assignments to be accomplished during this period include the following:

do five (5) must-do activities and at least one (1) suggested activity with all or the majority of the family members; and
produce a family scrapbook of their experiences during the long week-end.

All the families nationwide are encouraged to do the list of suggested activities with every member of the family participating for an experience of a lifetime.

Likewise, on the first and second weeks of September, the homeroom periods will be devoted to sharing of insights and learning of the family. The teachers will be oriented on how to go about this activity especially in the processing of the sharing of the students. For this activity, the families will be given an evaluation instrument that they can use in giving feedback regarding the activities which have been undertaken.

The Regional Directors (RDs), Schools Division/City Superintendents (SDSs) and all other school officials are enjoined to provide learning opportunities through the suggested activities for the children (pupils, students) and parents to build and enhance an atmosphere of caring and concern among the family members.
