Training Program in the Mathematical Enhancements, Recreations and Innovations Toolkit (Merit) for Teachers II

The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute - (DOST-SEI), in collaboration with the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP), will conduct a specialized training program entitled Mathematical Enhancements, Recreations and Innovations Toolkit (MERIT) for Teachers II on October 24-29, 2011 at the Punta de Fabian Resort, Manila East Road, Barangay Evangelista, Bas, Rizal.
The activity aims to:
  1. equip the secondary Mathematics teacher-participants with innovations and enhancements of selected topics which will be useful in the classroom;
  2. help them prepare their students in Mathematics competitions and Mathematical investigations; and
  3. increase their level of confidence.
The application for participation is open to all mathematics teachers of S 8v T Oriented High Schools, Regional Science High Schools (RSHSs) and Philippine Science High Schools (PSHSs) in Luzon except the National Capital Region. Please see Enclosure No. 1 for the list of qualified schools. Each school may send two (2) nominees, and each nominee shall fill up an application form (refer to sample form in Enclosure No. 2), and this form must be sent through the following e-mail addresses: merit~math.admu.edu.ph and meritforteachers@gmail.com.

All submissions will be acknowledged through e-mail. The submissions through any other means will not be accepted/entertained. The deadline for submission of application is on October 12, 2011. The twenty four (24) teachers will be selected based on the data in the application form. All selected teachers will be informed through e-mail on October 14, 2011, and only these teachers are allowed to participate in the training.

The DOST-SEI shall provide the accommodation, meals and training materials of the participants, while their transportation expenses to and from the training venue shall be charged to the schools' local funds subject to its availability and the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

The selected participants must arrive at the venue on October 24 at 3:00 p.m. and must depart the venue on October 29, 2011 at 12:00 noon.
