Philippine National Biodiversity Meeting and the First National Conference on Science, Education and Technology

The Pacific Island Institute for Pedagogy, Technology, Arts and Sciences, Inc. (Pacifictech) in cooperation with various institutions will hold the Philippine Biodiversity Meeting (BIOME) 2 in Catanduanes Island back to back with the First National Conference on Science, Education and Technology 2011 (SEDTEC) on October 19-21 in Virac, Catanduanes.
The BIOME and the SEDTEC aim to:
  1. initiate a culture and tradition of providing a venue for researchers, teachers and practitioners to present their studies, innovations/inventions and experiences;
  2. share knowledge and exchange ideas; and
  3. collaborate on projects to further strengthen the fields of biodiversity, science education and educational technology.
BIOME 2011 is titled Knowledge, Passion and Leadership with last year’s topics on Political Ecology, Social Representation and Nature Conservation forming as solid themes together with this year’s focus on Protecting and Valuing Rivers, Estuaries and Wetlands. On the other hand, Science, Education and Technology or SEDTEC will provide enormous opportunities to humankind that must be Explored, Integrated and Enhanced into the future. The impact of technological advances such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Philippine society as a result of global developments will have greater significance in addressing the current issues or trends related to biodiversity conservation and the phenomenon of climate change.

A registration fee of Two Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP2,500.00) will be charged to each participant (non-presenter) and One Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (PhP 1,500.00) for paper presenter attendees, which will cover snacks, lunch, material, kits, Event Handbook, certificates and other incidental expenses. The participants will pay their own accommodation/lodging arrangements in affiliated dormitories and local hotels located near the venue.
