Black screen when camera is turned on.

Black screen when camera is turned on.

I had taken several pictures and all was well and turned the camera off. When I turn the camera on again I had nothing but a blank / black screen. I can see the different camera setting, flash, macro, ets. but no image on the screen of what the camera is facing. I have gone through all the different setting in "menu" and changed to all of the different setting on the image wheel with no positive results. I'm out of ideas, any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I really enjoy the features of this camera. Thank you.

"Hi @xtremecacher ,

As you can see the various menus this proves that the LCD screen is working.

Try taking a few pictures, (I realize that you cannot 'see' what you are taking) and then download them to a computer to see if there is any pictures at all or just black pictures.

If only black pictures then the problem could be a faulty CCD sensor in the camera"

I had the same problem with my S7000. I tried the above check and got black pictures. I know it's not a quality fix, but I took the camera in one hand and slapped it into the other hand a few times. I was hoping to jiggle any loose electrical connections into making contact. Well it worked and the camera has been working again for 2 weeks now. I don't know how long the fix will last or if it will quit working again the next time I bump it. I loved the pictures it could take with the large optical zoom, and I didn't wanted to go out and buy another one without at least trying to get it working. Good luck.

"So I tried banging it and clearing the memory card which didn't work for me. The thing that did solve my problem was to clean out the cable ports inside the waterproof battery/card chamber.

After reading the manual I realised that when a cable is plugged in to display your photos on a TV, the screen goes black. So I cleaned the cable ports with a toothpick and it solved the problem. Something must have got in there and closed a circuit making the camera think it was plugged into a tv. Hope this helps someone!"
