Dell Latitude E6420 Black screen of death but external monitor working

My Dell Latitude E6420 has black screen of death. Let me explain what happen. My friend bought a battery for his E6440 laptop and his laptop not starting (no display) he asked me to check on my laptop for that battery.

Srikanth Vadlakonda it does sure sounds like your backlight is gone. From what it sounds like the battery somehow shorted out parts on your l;ogic board. It does not sounds like a new LCD would fix this, but anything is possible. It will be easier to exchange the LCD, but somehow I would think that this is a bad LED driver situation. Try a new LCD and see what happens but be prepared that it will not fix this issue. If you can, try to find any identifying marks on your motherboard so we can at least try and find you a schematic to help you out further. @hyzote: That isn't a driver issue. The dusty connector is a joke, isn't it? The connector is internally and it's connected to the port, so no way for dust to block the connector.

Reinstall your video drivers. This may be your solution but you will want to check all of your drivers to make sure they are updated. If you have recently installed anything then delete that and see if it works. Disconnect your monitor and see if the connection is dusty and ensure that it is securely connected with the cable.
