"I had error code 9 and blue screen when trying to restore after new screen and battery from water damage. I found a video that said the four screws that hold down the cover for the screen, speaker and front facing camera are different lengths. It said if you put too long of a screw into the bottom right hand hole, it can push on the motherboard and cause the blue screen. They said remove that screw and try with the hole empty. It worked like a charm, I now have a perfectly working iPhone 5S!
The way it always worked for me was disconnect the screen and everything else from the logic board and turn it on with minimum amount of stuff plugged in ( disconnect anything unnecessary ) do a restore and once the restore is complete then plug everything back.
