Fan and overheating issues

I have had this Mac for a little over a year. Recently I started noticing that it gets abnormally hot, especially around the top of the keyboard/base of the screen. I ended up downloading Macs Fan Control and noticed that the fan turns itself on, goes to over 200rpm, then 500rpm, 1000rpm, and then back to 0. To me it seems the fan can't stay on for some reason. Advice?

I have a similar problem with my 2015 MacBook Pro 13“. The fan will not run at all and the machine overheats very quickly. I have now installed MacsFanControl to get the fan running again. I set it to use the temp around the CPU to control fan speed and it works ok. I think this is a bug in the Apple Software as the hardware is obviously working... Have reported the issue to Apple but so far no feedback.

Same here on my early 2015 Macbook Pro 13” Retina. Cleaned everything, new thermal paste according to recommendations, fresh install of Catalina, reset SMC - should be runnung at 100%. Instead, it’s running at 100C. 2-3 Chrome tabs cause the top of the keyboard to be hot enough to burn your finger. The fan doesn’t kick in until the CPU temp reaches over 90C. Macs Fan Control only helps a little bit. It feels like it got worse after all these procedures.
