How to recover lost photos after processing in Adobe Illustrator?

I have to deal with the processing of photos all the time. I use Illustrator to edit and load. I never had reason to doubt this program until today's unusual problem. Instead of a large photo, the computer opens an error message that the file is corrupt and can not be opened. How can I return it? I do not have time to fix everything.
