"It could well be an intermittent on/off switch ...You can try leaving the switch in the on position then flex the mains cable back & forth in the area where the cable enters the body of the machine it is here that the cable is most under stress and can sometimes break either the live or neutral wires. Also check the cable at the appliances plug & the connections.

Another reason may be the motor is overheating an may have an internal thermal switch that is shutting off the machine.

Also check for blocked filters... or foreign objects that may have become lodged starting from head end of the Hoover."

My friend had a problem just in the blocked filter, but I would rather recommend contacting the service. They were offered to replace and I looked through the entire website in search of the best vacuum for shag carpets . I did not encounter such a problem anymore, but it is a pity that the new equipment does not work.

My problem was with a shop Vac. If you look under the filter you will see a rubber float inside. If you hold that up and try to push the switch you will see it go directly to the switch. This is a safe shut off to prevent water getting into the motor. Make sure the bottom is clean so it drops all the way down or your Vac will shut off as soon as you let go of the button. I have two Vac and both was doing the same thing one I had to clean the bottom that is rested on the other had junk around it restricting it’s travel. I hope this helps.

"The power will not stay on. This is for Dyson specifically.

The power comes on when you press the button, but it shuts off as soon as you release.

The power button is sticking or misaligned

With the machine unplugged, press the power button down and slip it off quick enough that it makes a pop noise. Do this about ten times. Plug the vacuum back in and the power should stay on."
