"I just did some testing with my iPad on my work Mac mini, where I know it is not trusted and even after turning it on from off, where PIN needs to be entered to unlock (can’t even use Face ID), it is seen in System Info. It is certainly normal for it to not be seen in finder if it was never trusted, but I would suspect that system info should know it is there, even if it cannot access the data.

It sounds like there is some other issue, but exactly what, it may be hard to say without either installing the new display or getting a USB ammeter to see how much current the device is drawing. It is plausible the device is booting up, but it cannot transmit data via USB to your iMac, which is its own problem. It’s also plausible the device is trying to boot up, but is never actually getting there, and you can’t tell without a known good display.

Liquid contact can introduce any number of variables and installing the new display may be worth it, but it’s no guarantee."
