When concurrently connected to wired and wireless ensure Windows 7 uses wired connection

When I am at my desk and my laptop is in its docking station I want to ensure that it uses its wired connection and not my wireless network. I am hoping/guessing that the preference in connection is based on the order of the listed connections in the Network and Sharing Center. I could just switch the wireless off but I'd prefer to not have to go through the trouble.

"There is an Advanced setting ""Interface Metric"" in Windows XP and newer. The lower number interfaces will be used first when they're connected.

By default, it's set to Automatic Metric, which prefers faster connections over slower ones. In most cases, this is the Right Thing."

"Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
on the left side panel, click on 'Change adapter settings'
Right click the adapter you wish to give priority to
Click Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4
Click Properties > Advanced
Un-check ""Automatic metric""
Enter a number between 1 and 9999 for the ""Interface metric"" (smaller is higher priority)

If it didn't change anything, then repeat the process for the adapter that Windows is currently using, and set the metric to a number higher than the adapter you wish to use."
