Why is my iPhone 4 taking such a long time to reset?

I recently got a iPhone 4 as a hand-me-down and since there was stuff on it, i erased all content and setting. Once i did that the screen went blank and a spinning circle appeared. However, this screen has been there for over 14 hours now. Help?

"you probably have to hard rest iphone (keep pressing the home and power button together for like 10 sec or till the apple logo comes back again ) and put it in DFU mode and then try restoring it back again.

For putting it in DFU u can follow up links on internet its easy . . . .

Hope it helps :)"

I waiting for 3 hours and the screen still blank and spinning circle appeared.

I tried to keep pressing the home and power button and apple logo appear .
