Windows XP slowdown, what's to blame?

I run Windows XP and after a while it seems to get real sluggish. I suspect it's heavy memory consumption of Firefox, but have noticed several other programs are 'slow' to exit when I reboot.

You may want to start by using the Task Manager, which will give you a fair bit of information.

"I have this problem all of the time. Firefox usually is my main offendor but occasionally I run something with a memory leak.

I know it has been said before but I will say it again... Process Explorer actually has a very handy feature where you can customize it to provide a few extra columns of information. Specifically the extra columns you are interested in is ""CPU History"" and ""Private Bytes History"" I think this is the info you are trying to glean from the system. It shows a scrolling graph for each process."
