hard drive is failing on the iPod. can I extract my songs?

My hard drive is beginning to go on my iPod and has now failed to register into itunes or as a driver. I took it to the Apple store and they recommended I check this site as they can do nothing about it. This problem first occurred after my laptop over heated and the iPod reverted back to factory settings. Everytime I tried restoring the iPod the iPod would reboot when ejected. is there any way to retrieve the songs, of which i had close to 15000. I don't care if the iPod works again I just want to get the music I've been compiling for 10 years back. Please, help.

if you have a Mac, you can try using Senuti

VirtualLab data recovery is good too if nothing else works.

You could also try Floola. http://www.floola.com/home/ , which is a standalone application that does not need installation and run under Linux (any GTK2 distro), Mac OS X (10.4 or newer!) and Windows (98 or newer, including Windows 7).

There's a program called CopyTrans which allows you to copy all the data from your iPod to another location. The free version allows you to only copy a few tunes at a time. The paid version allows you to extract everything at once.

no need for programs simply open in a linux distro and then you can simply drag and drop onn yourdeskeop from almost any musi reproductio software suchas as rythmbox or amarok... there are live cd distros so then you can copy and paste on you windows or mac hard drive... only sonside ithat it copies the named with a funky code such as "FHED" or "ERND"... you get the idea...

I've found a guide about "how to extract music from iPod". I hope it helps.
