iPod touch digitizer connector compatibility?

iPod touch digitizer connector compatibility? I have 4 8gb 3rd gen iPod touches with broken digitizers, i have purchased new digitizers for each of them but the connector on them are different from the ones that came off. is there a difference between 2nd gen and 3rd gen digitizers?
