"Heating Element

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element might have burned out. The heating element heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Heating Element Assembly

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element assembly might have burned out. The heating element assembly heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element assembly can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Drain Pump

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the drain pump might not be working properly. For two-wire drain pump motors check them for continuity using an Ohm meter. If it's defective You'll need to replace it. Drain pumps are not repairable.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the lights are flashing on the display the entire touchpad and control panel assembly might be defective. If the display works but the dishwasher functions are all out of synch, or some of the buttons don't respond properly the entire touchpad and control panel might need to be replaced.

Touchpad

If the display lights are flickering for no reason, the touchpad might need to be replaced. Sometimes when the touchpad is defective the display lights are flashing randomly."

"I have a Maytag dishwasher, same age, I believe the same model. My bet is that it's the control panel, especially if the heating element seems fine. Ours has been doing similar things --started with a blinking control panel, which was fixed by a 1-minute unplug reset. Now even resetting it does nothing to fix the erratic control panel. Buttons are acting erratic, and the machine started itself the other night.

I've read --and just looking at it, I can see that-- this series of dishwasher has a design flaw: the steam vent goes right by the control panel wiring, which causes corrosion, which shorts out the panel over time. I came here myself to see if there was a tutorial for reinstalling a new control panel/touchpad, which is what I think we're up against in our case."

"I'm having a similar problem with my Maytag unit. I'm a service technician and have worked on appliances for years. I disassemble the unit to check the control board and found the yellow wire harness was loose and came off the board as I removed the control panel. I reattached the wire harness and power up the unit and everything worked. I reattached the front panel and started the unit. it ran thru a complete wash cycle and sanitize cycle and cut off as it was designed. I reloaded it and started it up again and it ran thru the wash cycle but stopped just before the rinse cycle. I tried to restart it by going thru the drain cycle and restarting the unit. All I get know is a flashing green light on the normal wash cycle. The only button that seems to work is the cancel button. My diagnosis is a faulty control board.

My dish washer mod # isMDB 6769AWW3 serial number F13502674 The problem is that the cycle didn’t stop just kept running however it did drain. The lights tough scrub, start and cancel remain on. The cycle was originally set for normal.
