Unit does not come back on after lower temp reached

My home central air conditioner works fine till it reaches lower temperature setting then it shuts off and doesn't come back on even after the temperature rises. Turning it on and off does not help. It is not freezing up on the outside. I have to completely shut it down for an hour sometimes two and then it will turn back on. A fresh filter has been installed.

Richard it sounds to me as if it might be the control board. A component is changing values in use and has to be shutdown to reset. My suggestion would be to see if you can find a bad unit somewhere and retrieve the control board for free or at least reasonably priced. (preferably with a return option)
