What is causing the creaking from the rear of my car?

I have a creaking sound coming from the left-rear of my Focus. I can hear it from inside at all speeds whenever I go over any kind of bump, or even just driving through a parking garage. The noise is extremely loud when I am jacking any corner of the car. I even jacked up the left rear and used PB Blaster on every bolt and bushing I could find, to no avail.

"Check your brake wear indicators and brake pads They make a racket when the rub against the rear disks. If it's the indicators, it will be a loud annoying metal on metal squeal. If it's the pads down to metal, it will be a grinding noise, and you will most likely have to replace the rear disk.

Also, grease any fittings you can find. Do not use solvent like WD-40 or PB Blaster as those are penetrants and will take lube away. In addition, if your bolts are loose and causing the creaking on suspension parts, you will be well to go around and tighten them. If you find a rusted one rubbing on a bushing, remove it, clean it and coat it with anit-seize lubricant before putting it back together.

Let us know.

"Try to flip down the rear seats and if the noise is gone grease the metal rings were the seat snaps in :-)

I had it and the guys in the garage wanted to change the suspension ..."

Check your rear shock mounts. If they look ok, the problem might be a worn out rubber bushing somewhere in the rear suspension. Also, check out all the connections to your rear sway/torsion bar. It could be an exhaust connection somewhere as well.

I have a 2008 Ford Focus SE and it is making the same noise. Its a very loud creaking noise that sounds like it's coming from the inside, particularly from the rear as if it has something to do with the right back wheel. I was told just yesterday that it can be heard from the outside as well, so of course this raises my concern even more. I'm hoping that it's just the rear shock mount as stated above. Are there any other possible reasons behind this obnoxious creaking sound ?!

Just in front of the rear tire front leaf spring connection the rear brake cable passes through a round metal loop. pull on the cable to move the cable a little bit through the loop and check the cable, it WILL be worn down to the metal. this is what makes the noise. some electrical tape around the cable kept the metal from coming in contact and fixed the problem.
