Why can't my ps3 find the proper hard drive?

Why can't my ps3 find the proper hard drive? When I start up my PS3 the screen says its unable to find the proper hard drive.

Matthew Miller, try this first 1. Unplug the system from the power mains, then plug it back in. Turn it on and see if it makes any difference. 2. Open the HDD panel on the side of the console, remove the hdd, then put it back in. Turn on the PS and see if it works. i cant get into safe mode ! after completing 3 peep and red light and again 3 peep ! then turn off or get black screen !help me plz

Its suppose to be first 2 beeps once console is of hold power button it will go on keep holding in till it goes of then hold power button in again it will turn on keep holding it for another 2 beeps then leave it and it should take you into safe mode. What is wrong with your ps3?
