Why does my cd player sends back a "no disc" message?

Why does my cd player sends back a "no disc" message?

I have a Bose Wave radio and single CD player. This is an AM/FM radio with a single cd player on top, the kind with a remote. I have tried cleaning both the cd and the cd lens. I swabbed the lens with rubbing alcohol and blew the dust out with cold air from my blow dryer. (I'm out of canned air.) The player turns on and the radio works fine, but every cd spins for a moment and then gets the "no disc" rejection. I can't find out much information anywhere else. I have tried multiple discs and different outlets, as per suggestions on other sites.

It's possibly because the lens is not moving along its guide rails. Imagine a very small version of those desktop paper cutting devices that slides a blade along a rail to get a straight cut. If you can get in to where the laser sits, try dabbing some silicone furniture polish onto the little silver rails but NOT on the lens. You can do this with a q tip and then use the clean end of the q tip to gently nudge the laser carriage back and forth along the rails a couple of times to make sure it is lubricated. I think yours may be stuck and so not seeing the cd info at the centre of the disc and so returns 'no disc'. Also, nail varnish remover is good for cleaning laser lenses. Pinch your wife's if you haven't got any. Hope this helps. Mike
