Why does my GPS turn off after I unplug it?

The GPS works fine up until I unplug the GPS from the car. Then it shuts off and it won't turn on again. What's wrong with my GPS and how can I fix it?

There may be a problem with the battery if it's not holding a charge. Take a look at the troubleshooting page to find out if the battery is the main issue here.
