Wii U GamePad buttons and touch screen not responding

My Wii U gamepad has been experiencing glitches with the buttons and touch screen. Only the R&L and ZR and ZL buttons are working. I tried to restart, neturalize the control sticks, and re-sync the console but nothing worked :(

I recently had the same problem where none of the buttons worked on my wii u (including the touchscreen) except for the x, b and right analog stick. To solve it I took off the screen protector and put it back on and it worked properly so there must of been some contact it was sencing which interfered.

Want to update this 2020 , I have had the same problem and it's one thing that can cause these not working A,B,Y , touchscreen analogues and the D pad , I have had this problem on my partner's Wii u that I got her for Christmas , not sure if something has been dropped on it but here's what's wrong with your Wii u , if you have a screen saver take it off like what Lucas has said , if that has not worked look and examine your screen with a touch putting it left to right looking and the screen from every angle this is to make sure there is nothing trapped in the small gaps the screen has to the case , most likely you have something stuck in the gap if not there is a dent or deep scratch in your screen , if this has happened to you (The A is to accept something and the B is to go back this can not happen if you had your finger or pen on the screen because the console is processing it though the touchpad not the buttons There for if these buttons are not working but some are, its cause your screen has pressure so the console thinks your pressing it all the time

I had the same problem. I bought it when it was released and have always kept it clean and in a safe spot on top of my dresser. It was untouched for months until I wanted to replay BotW. I went to the game and the only button that worked was Home. So I researched and came here for answers.

After I cleaned the screen the only buttons that worked were, Home, TV, Power, and B.

So I unscrewed the back of the gamepad, removed the battery for 30 secs, unplugged the power cord to the console, but nothing worked…UNTIL after trying to touch the BotW thumbnail for like 30 times, it finally reopened the game, and I was able to use all of the buttons.

My only problem now is that the gamepad keeps switching back and forth from the TV. I kinda gave the screen a massage with my fingers and it stopped switching."

I have the same problem. I disconnected the battery and my game pad doesn’t have a screen protector on it and the buttons are clean. The problem is using it during Mario Kart when you need to hold down the A button to drive. It works and cuts out every couple seconds even when I’m holding the A button down. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with it and I’ve tried all these suggestions, it’s only the A button that seems to cut out and do this.

I have the same problem, when I turn on my gamepad I can’t do anything, when I shake it, it does something, then it goes back to the same thing; I can’t do anything, once I finally manage to do something it messes up, when I played Mario tennis 64 the virtual console menu kept popping up in between matches, I haven’t fixed it yet so I really don’t know
