2003 ford pickup theft light blinks and truck will not start

2003 ford pickup theft light blinks and truck will not start Started great and drove to the lumber yard. Shut off engine. Tried to restart later but theft light start blinking and would not start. After several minutes of trying the theft light quit blinking and started fine. Did the same thing later. Also the odometer reading went blank when light was blinking. Could the chip in my key be going bad? What could be causing this?
