2005 Ford Escape is stuck in park and no brake lights.

2005 Ford Escape is stuck in park and no brake lights. Brake switch is fine, no brake lights and stuck in park . I can over ride the safety lock to drive the vehicle but no brake lights. I have been told about a million reasons?I would think that the Shift interlock solenoid would be next? Any suggestions before i tear the console apart? Thanks.
