A big red x shows up on my iPod after resetting it

A big red x shows up on my iPod after resetting it
My iPod froze so I tried resetting it, however after I did, it became hung up on the apple logo and then a big red x showe up right after. I tried to run the Diagnostic Mode and i found out the the hard drive is probably done for. Any solutions to probably enable me to recover my data?
