black screen and can still hear sound

black screen and can still hear sound

I woke up one morning after having the tv on all night to a black screen. Although the picture is out, the audio on the tv was not affected. This is consistent over all the inputs. What could this be and is it a costly fix? I'd like to keep the tv, but I wonder if it's better to buy a new one.
