Head lights turn on and tail lights go out, head lights turned off

Head lights turn on and tail lights go out, head lights turned off when I turn my head lights off the tail lights come on as if they are brake lights. I have dash lights, front park lights and headlights when I turn them on with the headlight switch on the dash. I have no tail lights otherwise
