"The interior rear view mirror on many American cars is mounted to a small piece of metal that is glued to the inside of the windshield. If your mirror has fallen down, and there is not a piece of metal stuck to the glass, the piece of metal is still most likely mounted to the mirror. Usually loosening a screw on the underside of the base of the mirror will release it.

To reattach the mirror, go to your local auto parts store and buy a rear view mirror adhesive kit. These are generally around ten dollars, and consist of a cleaner and a tube of adhesive. Don't try to use regular glues or superglue. Follow the directions on the back of the package to glue the metal piece in place. Make sure you orient it correctly on the glass, and wait the recommended amount of time before hanging the mirror up again.

I hope this answers your question. Good luck."
