Popping noise then screen went black LG Smart tv#42LV5500.

Someone gave me a 48"smart TV made by LG but said that the popping noise happened and then the screen went black. I see other answers for capacitors but those were for plasmas, is it true for a smart TV as well that this may be the problem? Also should I tackle it myself I am tech savvy but not electronic.

ANSWERS:

"Hi @jag21 ,

There's not too much difference between plasmas and LCD TV as far as the power supplies go.

Checking the capacitors is always a good first step when a TV fails.

What other symptoms are showing, e.g. power light on/off, blinking/steady etc.?

Also have you checked the fuse (if there is one) on the power board ? They can sometimes make a loud noise when they blow.

Just make sure that the power is disconnected from the TV when you go to work on it.

It's only later when you may need to make voltage measurements that the power needs to be on. (assuming you have the gear to do this)"
