Replaced Screen Screen lights but is blank

Replaced Screen Screen lights but is blank

I installed the new display on my iPod Video. After install the display lights up but it is blank. Do not understand as when the broken display was in place the unit still worked, it just had a leaflike design through it. I can hear the drive firing up but no display.
