Why does my Sony ICFC1 clock flash "OFF" on display & not keep time?

Why does my Sony ICFC1 clock flash "OFF" on display & not keep time? My Sony ICFC1 alarm clock has been continuously flashing between the time and "OFF" on the display. Also, the buttons on the back to set time do not correspond with one another. ANSWERS:
