Why does my TV shut off when I try to power it on?

Why does my TV shut off when I try to power it on? My vizio TV shuts off when I power it on ,before it happened the screen was darker than it was ,I was still able to see what I was watching but the screen was dark ,then my TV shut off ,when I tried to cut it back on it shut back off I kept trying to cut it on but it shut off everytime ,so what should I do?
