"The struggle of Filipinos for independence during the Spanish period was not easy at all. Filipinos created several groups as a form of their revolution against the Spaniards. One of these groups is called the KKK (which means ""Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan"").

After authorities found out about KKK in August 1896, this started the armed independence struggle of the KKK. A lot of Filipinos sacrificed their lives to achieve Philippine independence from the Spaniards. One of the martyrs during the Spanish era is the national hero of the Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal, who was sentenced to death on December 30, 1896. The death of Dr. Jose Rizal increased the revolutionary spirit of the Filipinos wherein their desire for Philippine declaration of independence surged even more. Until finally, forces of the declining Spanish colonial were defeated. Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite. This was when proclamation of Philippine independence happened.
