How might adding a large number of carnivores affect a community

Carnivores would probably lower the population of herbivores and other weak / smaller carnivores. Thus, the population of their prey decreases causes this carnivores to be exhausted, hungry and die. After, a full recovery, herbivores would produce more offsprings to fill their population gaps. Once filled, a lot of herbivores would come, making more food for the predators.
