"Train A and train B leave a central station at the same time. They travel the same speed, but in opposite directions, with train A heading towards station A, and train B heading towards station B. Train A reaches station A after 3 h. Train B reaches station B after 214 h. Station A and Station B are 420 mi apart. What is the rate of the trains?"

"Hi! First of all, are you sure with your given? Train B reaches station B after 214 hours. That seems too long. But okay, we'll proceed to answer this assuming that's right. If it's not, you can still follow the process and just change the number. :)

So, remember that speed x time = distance.

We already have the given 420 mi distance.

For the time, since they are travelling in opposite directions, we just add them: 3h + 214h = 217h.

Then to get the speed (since they have the same speed), we just divide:

420mi / 217h = 1.94mi /h.

Hope this helps!"
