what if? imagine that monna giovanna had explained the purpose for her visit as soon as she arrived at federigo's house. what impact, if any would this earlier disclosure have had on monna giovanna's son? on federigo? on monna giovanna's decision to remarry?

"This is a tough question, but let’s tackle this in parts.

As we know, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Since the story clearly states that Federigo is head over heels for Monna Giovanna, he most likely would have given his falcon just to please her; however, this could also be a possible moment that he might think that she is not a nice person due to the fact that she only wanted the falcon and not actually visit “him”.

As for the part of the son, if we really think about it, he would have succumbed to the illness eventually even after he gets united together with the falcon. So in a sense Monna might also have returned the falcon to Federigo after his passing.

Monna Giovanna’s decision to remarry would be one of the most affected part of the story if the events unfolded in a different manner. As stated in the story that after she hears what Federigo had done just to dine her and her friend by his sacrifice, she “commended the greatness of his spirit”. If this event did not unfold, the chances of her remarrying would be slim to none.
