"The government tried to prevent the New York Times from publishing articles about the Vietnam War because it was criticizing the military which was killing civilians in their illegal invasion of a country that did not attack them. It was seen as being unpatriotic by the jingoistic leaders of the United States who pushes for war whenever possible. This was a time when media companies have a certain level of integrity they can be proud of, unlike today where they serve as the cheerleaders and propagandists for foreign interventions. People must remember that the Vietnam war was started on a lie, where the United States claimed to have been attacked by Vietnamese gunboats at the Gulf of Tonkin.
