Activities of Supreme Pupil Governments, Supreme Student Governments and Other School Clubs for the National Teachers Month

Pursuant to the Synchronized Programs, Projects and Activities of DepEd Memorandum No. 109, s. 2012, all Supreme Pupil Governments (SPGs), Supreme Student Governments (SSGs) and other school-based co-curricular clubs or organizations shall actively participate in the 2012 National Teachers' Month (NTM) and World Teachers' Day (WTD) Celebrations from September 5 to October 5, 2012 with the theme "My Teacher, My Hero."
In view thereof, the following organizational matters shall be observed and accomplished to achieve a united, synchronized and successful conduct of NTM and WTD activities:
  1. The SPGs and the SSGs in all public and private schools shall lead the planning and implementation of all activities pertinent to these celebrations;
  2. As often as possible, the SPGs, with the guidance of their advisers, shall call all presidents/heads/representatives of school-based co-curricular clubs or organizations to a meeting, while the SSGs shall convene the Coordinating Council of Campus Co-Curricular Organizations in accordance with DepEd Order No. 79, s. 2009, otherwise known as the Revised Standard Constitution and By-laws of the Supreme Student Governments in Secondary Schools, or its equivalent, for the planning of activities, assignments of each participating school-based co-curricular club or organization and follow up of updates and progress in the preparations;
  3. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other school-based co-curricular clubs or organizations may plan their own NTM and WTD activities provided these are properly coordinated with the SPG or SSG concerned;
  4. The Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs) officers, local government units (LGUs) (barangay, municipality or city) and other government agencies officials, community, business, socio-civic organizations and non-government organizations leaders, and church leaders shall be invited and engaged in the planning and implementation of activities relative to NTM and WTD Celebrations; and
  5. Coordination with the school heads (SHs), district supervisors, schools division/city superintendents (SDSs) and regional directors (RDs) as regards the various activities for the NTM and WTD Celebrations shall be regularly done.
In accordance with the Synchronized Programs, Projects and Activities for the NTM and WTD pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 109, s. 2012, the following suggested activities may be included in the plan and implemented with vigor:
  1. Posting of streamers, posters and banners in various school bulletin boards and other conspicuous places announcing the 2012 NTM and WTD Celebrations and the line-up of activities, and commending the contributions of all the teachers in nation-building;
  2. Conduct of special activities to honor teachers including but not limited to tree-planting and contests (such as on-the-spot poster-making, essay-writing, Thank You card designing and text contests) among pupils and students;
  3. Invitation for everyone else who has been a pupil or a student to say "Thank You" to at least one teacher, retired or in active duty, who has made a difference in his or her life;
  4. Publication of feature stories or write-ups on teachers through school papers, websites, social networking sites and other online channels;
  5. Engaging of local television and radio stations and local newspapers and publications to participate in the various activities;
  6. Posting of comments, greetings, pictures and others at the official facebook page of the NTM and WTD Celebrations at www.facebook.com/depedtmc beginning September 5 until October 5, 2012;
  7. Synchronized ringing/sounding of school and church bells at 10:05 a.m. of October 5, 2012 and reciting the National Prayer for Teachers;
  8. Holding of a culminating activity on October 5 highlighted by a Tribute Program, parlor games, sportsfest, parade and other leisure and fun activities for teachers;
  9. Recognition of teachers' efforts by giving awards to both active and retired teachers during the Tribute Program;
  10. Organizing of Grade VI pupils to Fourth Year High School students to handle the classes on behalf of the teachers while the Tribute Program is being held;
  11. Coordination with business establishments and other private organizations significant discounts, special rates and special treats for teachers to be availed from September 5 to October 5, 2012; and
  12. Grant of teachers' wishes for themselves or for others during the month-long celebrations.
The activities for the NTM and WTD Celebrations shall be undertaken by the SPGs, SSGs and other school-based co-curricular clubs or organizations (such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, STEP, YECS, YES-O, Science Club, English Club, Mathematics Club, among others) in the most public, creative, festive and memorable ways possible. Expenses for the celebrations shall be charged against SSG Developmental Funds, voluntary contributions and/or donations from government, individual and private sponsors.

All SHs, SDSs and RDs are encouraged to support all the activities to be undertaken by the SPGs, SSGs and other school-based co-curricular clubs or organizations.

All activities conducted pursuant to the NTM and WTD celebrations shall be documented with clear pictures and narratives, and posted on www.facebook.com/depedtmc starting September 5 to October 31, 2012 indicating the name of the school and the school-based co-curricular club or organization involved. Compliance to the reports and other requirements shall be monitored by the Office of the Secretary (OSec) through the Department of Education-Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (DepEd-CSCA).
