Latest Philippine Employment Rate Estimated at 92.8 percent this April 2011

The results from the April 2011 Labor Force Survey (LFS) estimated the Philippine employment rate at 92.8 percent, slightly greater than 0.8 percent from the last year of the same period which was 92 percent. National Capital Region (NCR) got the lowest employment rate of 88.4% among the 17 administrative regions.

The regions that recorded with high employment rate in April 2011 were:

• Zamboanga Peninsula - 96.8%
• Cagayan Valley - 96.7%
• Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) - 96.3%
• MIMAROPA, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and SOCCSKSARGEN - each has 96%

In April 2011, a total of 2.9 million Filipinos were unemployed, comprising a 7.2% unemployment rate. This lower than the 8% unemployment rate registered last year of the same period. More males (64%) were unemployed than females (36%). 5 out of 10 unemployed persons were in the age group of 15 to 24 years old. While 3 out of 10 unemployed people were in age group of 25 to 34 years old.

Most unemployed persons were high school graduates (32.6%). College undergraduates was estimated to be 23.1% of the total unemployed, while the college graduates comprised 20.45%.
