The Qualifying Examination aims to:
- seek to evaluate the breadth of the students' Mathematical knowledge and skills;
- select superior students in the field of Mathematics for further training and advancement;
- serve as an avenue to enhance their Mathematical skills through phases of intensive Mathematics training programs; and
- develop the Mathematical potentials of the Mathematics promising students to meet the international Mathematics standards.
The participants in the Qualifying Examination are Mathematics-inclined or Mathematics-promising from both public and private elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
The Mathematics-inclined and Mathematics-promising students who will pass the qualifying examination shall be eligible to enroll as trainees in the twelve (12)-Saturday Mathematical Challenge for Filipino Kids Training Program (MCFKTP). In this Program, they can avail an opportunity to participate in the different international correspondence Mathematics competitions as folllows:
- Mathematics Olympiad for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS);
- American Mathematics Competitions (AMC)-8, 10-12;
- Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (CMOC)
- Canadian Mathematics Competitions (CMC)-Pascal, Caley and Fermat Contests;
- Rio TINTO Big Science International Competition; and
- International Competition and Assessment for Schools-Mathematics, Science and English
The MTG, Philippines will give sixteen (16) free slots to every region for the public school students to participate in the Australian Mathematics Competitions. The breakdown of the slots is as follows:
- Middle Primary Division (for incoming Grades 3 and 4) - 4 slots
- Upper Primary Division (for incoming Grades 5 and 6) - 4 slots
- Junior Division (for incoming 1st and 2nd year High School) - 4 slots
- Intermediate Division (for incoming 3rd and 4th year High School) - 4 slots
A minimal registration fee of Thirty Five Pesos (PhP35.00) shall be charged to each participant from the private elementary and secondary schools to cover freight expenses, contest materials, and honoraria for the proctors, maintenance personnel and test venues. The registration fee should be paid to the MTG center coordinators in their respective regions on or before July 7, 2012.
Interested Mathematics wizards from the public elementary and secondary schools are free of registration charge.
The list of MTG Center coordinators and test venues for the qualifying examinations are enclosed. The list of selected training center will be announced at MTG website at www.mtgphil.org.
