PH’s fixed broadband, mobile data speed accelerates in December 2021 – Ookla "MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has improved its broadband and mobile global performance rankings in December, according to the Ookla Speedtest Global Index. The country’s fixed broadband speed improved to 50.26Mbps from the 46.44Mbps registered in November, bringing the country to nine notches higher in the global ranking. The Philippines now ranks 63rd out of 178 countries in broadband speed. For mobile data, there was an average 19.20Mbps mobile download speed from 18.68Mbps from the previous month. The Philippines ranks 89th out of 138 countries in terms of mobile speed. Improvement in internet speed is largely attributed to this development as telecommunications firms are able to fast-track infrastructure projects (cellular towers and fiber optic network) necessary in boosting services and connectivity, the National Telecommunications Commission said. The Ookla Speedtest Global Index report for December 2021 was based on median rather than mean download speed. In refining its data, Ookla explained that median was a measure that captured the typical user’s experience and that presenting the median download speed best reflects the speeds a user is likely to achieve in a market.
