My truck will sometimes shut off while im driving

My truck will sometimes shut off while im driving Okay so my the truck shuts off while im driving usually if im idling or when i first start it.sometimesit will shut off and wont turn back on for hours leaving me stranded,and other times it starts up just fine.what would cause this.ive noticed its a popular question.
