Why is there a “muting” bar appearing on the screen?

Why is there a “muting” bar appearing on the screen? Our 2019 Sony Bravia 65” 900F has started to display a black bar with “muting” showing, although the TV isn’t muted. We can’t seem to get rid of it. What to do? ANSWERS:
